So often we look at ourselves and become overwhelmed by our shortcomings. We begin to get discouraged and we make what was suppose to be a journey a performance based life. You repeatedly try to get it together and you tell yourself “I’m working on it” or “I’ll get there”, but somehow no matter what you do and how hard you try you always end up feeling like it’s never good enough.
I did a short documentary in college for my senior film about the journey of divorce and family of my friend whom I call my “Uncle Tio”. His story meant a lot to me because I just didn’t show up one day and ask him to tell his story. I already knew his story, because while I was in high school I saw with my own eyes when calamity came into his life and destroyed everything that he had. I saw his brokenness and his disappointment because he wasn’t able to keep his family together. He tried to find peace and get it together but always found himself on his knees crying out to God for help. In that very moment he saw his identity and his profound perspective on what life is truly about.
JESUS IS OUR SOURCE.
2 Corinthians 12:9-10
“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
Our lives aren’t meant to be fueled out by our strength. We alone are not our source. We as humans are fickle and broken and that’s just the very state of the human condition. We can try time and time again with our own understanding but we will find ourselves in a constant search for peace. We have to come to the realization that Jesus is our source. Our source of strength, peace, joy, motivation, inspiration, love and the list goes on. When we can finally get out the way of ourselves Jesus can come in and deposit in you his all sufficient unfailing GRACE.
